My reason for opening my catering business in the District is “Doing What I Love to Do” and to “WOW” people with my taste and love for "Italian fused with Creole Spices". Walking away from my Corporate 9:00 am to 5:00 pm job was a bit scary but for me following my passion and love for food was one of the best choices that I could have made for my career.
As a result, and in my 1st year in business I was chosen as DC Best Chef 2012 by WDMTV and Nominated as DC Best Caterer 2012 by the Washington Blade. By receiving these accolades make me know that I made the right decision.
“Starting your own business is about timing, your product and the market that will support your business model. Walking away from a full-time job takes careful planning, as it is important that you have the cash flow to sustain your new business. Additionally, I strongly suggest that new and existing business owners take advantage of the free workshops given by DCRA’s Small Business Resource Center (SBRC). By attending the free small business development workshops, I was able make the right decisions when opening my catering business. The workshops helped me understand the rules, regulations, renewal processes and most importantly the associated fees. These sessions are very important to my catering business thriving in the District for many years to come.”
