Health Inspection Report Approval
A Health Inspection Report Approval is proof of compliance with D.C. Code and DC Municipal Regulations set forth for food establishments. All applicants for a Basic Business License for a food-related category must be inspected by and receive approval to operate from the Department of Health, Food Safety and Hygiene Inspection Services Division, 899 North Capitol Street, N.E., Washington, DC 20002, (202) 535-2180. The purpose of a food safety inspection is to ensure that food is handled properly from preparation through serving. Food Safety Inspectors observe kitchen workers' food handling practices, make certain equipment works properly, assures proper water temperatures and levels, and ensures proper sanitizing measures are in place.
