Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services - Definition

The District of Columbia Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services (FEMS) has the mission to preserve life and promote health and safety through excellent pre-hospital treatment and transportation, fire prevention, fire suppression and rescue activities and homeland security awareness. This department conducts the Fire Marshall Inspection, which is a requirement for Basic Business License categories, such as Gasoline Dealer, Mattress Storage, Temporary Fireworks, and many others.
